Insights is the publication of Concrete Steppas™, a movement and experience collective, powered by line dance. We publish original writing, cultural documentation, and perspectives from practice on movement, leadership, wellbeing, and human connection.
Headquartered at National Harbor, Maryland, Concrete Steppas™ is a Black women-owned business founded by Precious “Preciosa” Myers-Brown, KV Simmons, Dr. Danielle “Tonie” Tyler, and M’Balia “Bella” Rucker.
Who is behind the work?
Our founders bring together experience in corporate and organizational leadership, entrepreneurship, education, dance, choreography, fitness instruction, and community leadership. Precious “Preciosa” Myers-Brown brings entrepreneurship, community education, producing, and cultural storytelling. KV Simmons brings more than 30 years of fitness and movement instruction. Dr. Danielle “Tonie” Tyler brings education, institutional leadership, organizational systems, and fitness coaching. M’Balia “Bella” Rucker brings more than 45 years of dance experience, alongside choreography, artistic leadership, and dance education.
What does Concrete Steppas™ do?
Our work connects culture and public programming, corporate and team experiences, wellness and community experiences, and destination and placemaking experiences. Line dance is the shared language through which we bring people into an experience. Cultural storytelling and documentation run across that work.
Insights gives readers, organizational leaders, cultural institutions, wellness practitioners, event producers, and potential collaborators a place to explore the thinking and practice behind the collective.

Written in Concrete™ is our written record of line dance culture through an urban lens, rooted in the DMV and tracing how the dance travels through the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. We document dancers, creators, teachers, music, places, and the people who carry the culture, with attention to attribution and the stories behind the steps.
